Common questions: Choosing a gift from our virtual gift shop

Our virtual gifts are a unique way to show your loved ones you care and help change lives this summer. They’re a way to make a donation on someone’s behalf as a gift. After your donation, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate acknowledging your gift, ready to print and share with your recipient. This beautifully designed certificate includes space for a personalised message.

  1. Choose a virtual gift for your loved one and make a donation to support our work
  2. After donating, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate acknowledging your gift, with space for a personalised message for your recipient.
  3. You can print it and give in person or send by email.
  4. Your donation will help change lives around the world.

The amounts shown for each gift reflects what it typically costs to provide the item or treatment.  All donations will be used to support our life-changing work wherever the need is greatest.

For every donation we receive (including donated supplies), 92% directly helps to prevent blindness, restore sight and support people with disabilities, and 8% helps us grow awareness and funds.

If you choose to donate to our work, your donation will go into our general funds and will be spent wherever the need is greatest. Examples of how your gift will help include:

Eye health
You’ll be supporting projects that will restore sight and prevent sight loss in some of the world’s poorest communities. Blindness can make coping with poverty so much harder, so these projects really do give children and adults a brighter future.

Preventing disease
You’ll also help us to eliminate trachoma and other debilitating diseases, and ensure everyone can access good-quality health services.

Social inclusion
With your support, we ensure women, men and children with disabilities are able to go to school, see a doctor and get a job so they can support their family and take part fully in society.

Yes! After you make your donation, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate acknowledging your gift. It includes space for a personalised message and is perfect to print or email to your recipient.

Sightsavers fights avoidable blindness and ensures people with disabilities can participate equally in society. Our vision is of a world where avoidable blindness is eliminated, and people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else.

We do what we do because almost half of visual impairment can be treated or prevented. We also believe people with visual impairments and other disabilities deserve the same opportunities to learn, earn and be happy as everyone else.

Common questions: What will I receive?

No. When you choose a virtual gift from Sightsavers, neither you nor your recipient will receive a physical item such as glasses or a braille kit. Instead, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate acknowledging your donation, with space for a personalised message. You can print it or email it to your recipient.

Thank you so much for wanting to support this particular area of work. Glasses are a vital part of our core eye care programmes, and in 2024 alone we helped 872,922 people improve their vision with glasses. While we can’t guarantee your gift will fund glasses specifically — because managing thousands of individual gifts would be very costly — your donation will go into our general funds and will be spent wherever the need is greatest.

After you make your donation, you’ll receive a beautifully designed downloadable certificate acknowledging your gift. It includes space for a personalised message and is ready to print or email to your recipient.

We are unable to send certificates directly to your recipients. The good news is our virtual gifts are fully customisable, so you can edit the certificate and email it on, or print if off and write in your gift recipient’s name.

If your donation was successful, your certificate acknowledging the gift will be delivered to the email address specified almost immediately. Please check your junk/spam email inboxes. If you haven’t received it after an hour, please contact our supporter care team by emailing [email protected]
