Trachoma has an impact on the whole community, affecting the independence and income of adults and threatening children’s education.

Before her sight-saving surgery, 47-year-old Maria suffered from the agony of trachoma for over 30 years. As her pain became more severe and her vision blurred, she struggled to earn an income to pay for food or her youngest child’s school fees.

Her children needed medication to keep them safe from infection and for the chance of a future free from the pain Maria felt for so long.

Remote communities like Maria’s are far more at risk of trachoma due to limited access to water and knowledge about its prevention. It’s vital that we reach as many people as possible to promote facial cleanliness and provide them with preventative antibiotics, to stop trachoma in its tracks.

Together with our local teams, partners and community health workers, we can find and protect people in even the most remote places, to ensure no one is left behind.

Will you help protect more communities from trachoma this Easter?

“My children could go the whole day without eating because I couldn’t look for food. It was so painful to watch them cry from hunger.”

Our Easter fundraiser will run from 11 April to 21 April 2025. During this time, we’ll be adding up online donations to our spring appeal and displaying the total on this page. Our goal is to raise $22,500, which is equivalent to the cost of providing treatment to over 250 communities at risk of or with trachoma, but all donations will be used to support our life-changing work wherever the need is greatest.

One-off donations are included at their face value (eg $10 donation = €10 displayed on this page), and regular gifts are included as the value of 12 months’ donations (eg $5 donation a month = $60 displayed on this page). The totaliser does not include Gift Aid. We will update the information in the totaliser once a day while the fundraiser is running, to give us time to validate donations. Thank you.
