You can help provide urgent eye treatments

Every day, children and their families are going blind from eye conditions that are straightforward to treat.Time is running out. Will you help?

Every day, millions of people suffer from painful eye conditions. Without action, many will lose their sight. Your support can help change this.

People in some of the world’s poorest communities do not have access to basic eye care. Diseases threaten to steal their sight, even though medicines are available. Conditions like cataracts and astigmatism are straightforward to treat, but too often there is nobody to diagnose them. Without early intervention, it can become too late to protect people from permanent blindness.

By supporting Sightsavers, you are helping to bring essential eye care to those who need it most. Together, we can help to eliminate trachoma, treat river blindness, and restore sight to people with cataracts. Your gift can help provide independence, improve children’s access to education and lift families out of poverty.

Act now and be a part of our mission. Your support is crucial in helping to transform lives and creating a world where no one goes blind from avoidable causes.

How your money helps

Your donation could support a child like nine-year-old Samantha to receive treatment for trachoma, the world's most common infectious cause of blindness.

Eye conditions that can lead to sight loss

Trachoma

Worldwide, 103 million people are at risk of this painful infection, which can scar the eyelids until the lashes scratch against the eye.

Cataracts

As well as affecting older adults, children can be born with cataracts. These can make it harder to learn and may hold up their development.

River blindness

Bites from infected flies spread this disease, putting worm larvae into the bloodstream which can reach the eyes and destroy sight.

Why eye health matters

Our eyes are responsible for 80 per cent of all the information our brain receives.

They allow us to experience the beauty of our world, the joy of seeing a loved one’s face, and the independence to navigate our surroundings. Sight loss affects every aspect of life, from education and employment to social interactions and overall wellbeing. This is why protecting eyesight is so crucial.

Projects supported by Sightsavers are transforming eye care by training teachers to conduct eye tests in classrooms, equipping surgeons to perform operations, and distributing medicines to combat infectious diseases. Your donations help make these life-changing initiatives possible: together, we can help prevent blindness and restore sight.

This diagram shows the parts of the eye: the cornea, lens, iris, ciliary muscle and aqueous humour at the front; the sclera, choroid, retina and optic nerve at the rear; and the vitreous humour in the centre.

Regular eye tests are vital to check the health of the eyes, but millions of people worldwide cannot access basic eye care or the sight-saving treatments they urgently need.

Today, your donation will help change lives. It could support work to improve global eye health by providing medicines, operations or glasses. It could help train a teacher to spot eye conditions in their students, or train a surgeon to operate on a child with clouded lenses due to cataracts.

We've made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go. Together, we can create a world where no one misses out on the vital eye care they need, and where everyone can participate equally in society. Donate to Sightsavers and join the countless others working to turn this vision into a reality.
